Helen Bamber Foundation

Dr. Ana Howarth is a pain management psychologist and researcher at the Helen Bamber Foundation in the UK. Her research in the past has been focused on pain self-management in the form of brief mindfulness interventions but working with torture survivors has broadened her interest to include the development and investigation of any behavioural strategies that translate into better pain management. She is interested using pain education to facilitate improved pain research collaboration and finding evidence-based strategies that are feasible for health care providers and policy makers to implement. With the aim of improving quality of life for persistent pain patients, she is also interested in exploring mindset interventions for pain relief and examining the placebo effect in relation to treatment outcomes.
